The two-century-old Baro Mansion, located in the Kaleiçi district of Edirne, is being restored under the directive of Governor Yunus Sezer. After being unused for ten years, the mansion will be transformed into a gastronomic destination offering palace and Balkan cuisine once the restoration is completed.

Historical Significance and Restoration Efforts

The Baro Mansion, one of the finest examples of civil architecture from the last century of the Ottoman Empire, was previously restored and allocated to the Edirne Bar Association during the tenure of the late Edirne Governor Fahri Yücel (2000-2004). This transformation aims to enhance the city’s gastronomic tourism.

Gökhan Karakoç, President of the Edirne Bar Association, has been actively working towards the revitalization of the allocated building since he took office. He stated, “The survey project of the mansion has been completed and approved by the Monuments Board. We will proceed with the restoration project, followed by the repair and functional implementation stages.”

Contribution to Gastronomic Tourism

Karakoç noted that once the restoration of the 200-year-old mansion is completed, it will serve Edirne’s tourism sector. He highlighted the city’s rich culinary heritage, stating, “Edirne is famous for its liver and meatball masters, offering high-quality service to tourists. However, at the Baro Mansion, we aim to present palace and Balkan delicacies. Efforts are already underway in the city for this purpose. Contributing to the city’s gastronomic tourism will make us very happy.”

Karakoç expressed gratitude to Governor Sezer for his efforts in the mansion’s restoration and emphasized that the Baro Mansion is not merely a building but one of the most significant witnesses to Edirne’s history.
