The Governorship of Edirne has been making significant efforts to unleash the city’s existing tourism potential. One of these endeavors is the “Touristic Journey Train.” Now, tourists visiting Edirne can look forward to an exhilarating journey to explore the city’s historical scenery.

The Governorship of Edirne has now made it possible to offer a special experience for those who wish to delve into the city’s rich cultural heritage: the “Edirne Touristic Journey Train”! This nostalgic tram-like tour train will provide easy access to the city’s important tourist spots.

Visitors will embark on a beautiful journey starting from the heart of the city, Selimiye Square, crossing the Meriç and Tunca bridges, and reaching the historical Train Station and Lozan Monument in the Karaağaç District. Along this route, they will have the opportunity to feel and perceive Edirne’s history and culture more closely. The touristic train is initially envisioned to provide free service.

Governor Yunus Sezer emphasized the attention to the nearly 1560 historical artifacts in the city and particularly highlighted Edirne’s role as the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Sezer added, “Edirne has significant tourism potential, attracting over 6 million visitors annually.”

In this context, it was shared by the governor that 7 separate routes had been designated for the tour train to best promote the city. Sezer stated, “We are aiming to reveal the historical and cultural richness of the city. Due to the narrow streets of historical cities, there is a need for different modes of transportation. Therefore, we are focusing on various options like nostalgic trains.”

Sezer also mentioned plans for several similar projects in the future, alongside tours organized with tour buses equipped with digital guides narrating the historical sites in 7 different languages. Visitors will be able to receive information through headphones.

Furthermore, the governor also indicated the organization of boat trips on the Tunca and Meriç rivers to enhance activities in the region. It seems that in the near future, exciting projects will unfold to discover the natural beauty and history of Edirne.
