The Customs and Foreign Trade Regional Directorate for Thrace announced the number of Bulgarian tourists who visited Edirne between January 1 and November 27. With the increase in exchange rates in Turkey, 1 million Bulgarian tourists entered Edirne since the beginning of the year for shopping, using private vehicles and tours.
Between January 1 and November 27, 700,000 Bulgarian tourists entered Edirne through the Kapikule Border Gate, and 300,000 through the Hamzabeyli Border Gate.
PER CAPITA SPENDING IS 500 EUROS
President of the Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated in his announcement that on weekends, the number of Bulgarian tourists reached 12,000 and that they spent 500 euros per person. A visitor from Bulgaria noted that Bulgarian officials inspected their vehicles at the border and entry permission was not granted if more than 300 euros of shopping was made, said, “We bought food, drinks, and clothes. We spent a lot of money, and what we bought amounted to 500 euros. Currently, prices are a bit higher than in previous weeks. On the Bulgarian side, as long as it doesn’t exceed 300 euros, there are no issues at customs.”
NUMBER OF BULGARIAN TOURISTS COMING TO EDIRNE FOR DAY TRIPS INCREASE
According to the data from the Customs and Foreign Trade Regional Directorate for Thrace, since the weekend, 32,412 Bulgarians have entered Edirne through the Kapikule Border Gate. Officials stated that, including the Pazarkule and Ipsala Border Gates, the number of those coming to the country for shopping was over 40,000.
