TURKEY CULTURE ROAD FESTIVAL

The Türkiye Kültür Yolu Festivali Culture Road Festival) has recently gained attention in the media as a significant cultural event organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism since 2021. The festival aims to enhance Turkey’s international brand value and transform the country’s historical and cultural assets into major attractions.

Each year, select cities host the event, and the festival has grown, both in scope and scale, featuring multiple cities and extended over several months.

In 2024, the festival takes place across 16 cities, with events planned from April to November, showcasing Turkey’s rich cultural heritage through a wide variety of activities. The selected cities for the 2024 festival include:

The festival focuses on promoting Turkish culture in these cities, creating an opportunity to connect diverse audiences with Turkey’s artistic and historical richness.

However, this prompts an important question: Why is Edirne, a city with immense cultural and historical significance, not included in the list?*

As one of the most ancient cities in Turkey and the former capital of the Ottoman Empire, Edirne holds a unique place in Turkey’s cultural heritage. Yet, despite its rich history and importance, it has not been selected as one of the festival’s host cities in 2024. This exclusion raises concerns about potential neglect or oversight of Edirne’s cultural potential.

Local authorities, including the Edirne Directorate of Culture and Tourism and the municipality, might need to address this issue and work towards ensuring that Edirne is rightfully represented in future editions of the festival. Given its historical significance and cultural depth, Edirne should be a prominent participant in such national cultural celebrations.
