As the summer season kicks off in Enez, a charming holiday town of Edirne province, the calendar of social and cultural events is beginning to take shape. Here’s an overview of some of the activities already planned.
The Summer Meetings organized by the Sahil Sakinleri Solidarity Association have officially begun. The first gathering took place on June 8 at Ceren Book Cafe. During the meeting, participants were informed about the association’s work during the winter months, and upcoming projects for the summer were outlined.
BOOK FAIR IN AUGUST
Association leaders announced that a variety of cultural excursions would be organized this summer. In collaboration with Ceren Cafe, they also plan to host a series of literary talks featuring well-known authors. One of the highlights of the season will be a book fair titled “Edirne and Edirneli (Edirne’s) Writers”, scheduled for early August. Monthly Advisory Board meetings will continue as usual, and this year’s beach volleyball tournament is expected to be even more comprehensive than last year’s.

In the coming days, site presidents and representatives will meet with the association to discuss how its operations can be made more effective and efficient. The association emphasized its commitment to voicing the concerns of Enez and the coastal area under all circumstances.
Attendees expressed concern over the increasing restriction of public access to the beaches. They called for legal action to address this issue. Additionally, many complained about the lack of municipal services, stating that the area is becoming less livable and stressing the need for concrete steps to improve the situation.

“SPEAKING ENEZ”
Other key points from the meeting included a statement from the association about their mission, which they described as “Speaking Enez.” They also pointed out the general indifference of the roughly 35,000 people living in the coastal area and said this attitude was difficult to understand. They encouraged young people to look at Enez and the coast “through the eyes of youth” and to bring forward “youthful suggestions.”
Finally, it was noted that the official approval from the Governor’s Office was still pending for the Sahil area to be designated as a neighborhood. In light of this, potential candidates for the position of neighborhood head (muhtar) were invited to attend upcoming meetings to share their plans and kick off their campaigns.
