Spring in Edirne is always something special… But when Kakava and Hıdırellez arrive, the city transforms into a vibrant canvas of color and joy. This year, the celebrations are spread across four full days, and on the second day, the energy is still going strong! Everywhere you walk, there’s music in the air, people dancing, and a contagious festive spirit.
From the early hours of the morning, Edirne found its rhythm once again. With performances by REKFOD, the Anatolian Folklore Foundation, Çengel Brothers, Mücahit Altıok and his Orchestra, and the Edirne Municipality Band, the stage never stood still—and neither did the audience! Especially when those lively 9/8 rhythms started playing, no one could resist joining in the dance. Local artists turned the square into a live concert venue, bringing even more excitement to the day.
Of course, no Kakava celebration is complete without the traditional wish tree ritual. People wrote down their hopes and dreams on small pieces of paper and tied them to the branches. Every wish carried a little piece of spring and a lot of heart. Dressed in colorful traditional clothing, Roman citizens added their joy and energy to the scene—dancing with visitors and becoming the soul of the celebration.
One of the loveliest parts of the festival was the market stalls run by local women. From hand-embroidered textiles to handcrafted jewelry and delicious traditional treats, everything was made with incredible care and devotion. These stalls beautifully reflected Edirne’s rich cultural heritage and artistry.
