With the start of the celebrations, Selimiye Square became a bustling hub. Visitors set out to explore the historic streets of Edirne, shopped in local bazaars, and delighted in the city’s famous culinary offerings. This lively atmosphere brought a welcome boost to local businesses. Hotel bookings and preparations made well in advance met the expectations of shopkeepers and vendors.
Spring Celebrations with Rhythm, Color, and Romani Tunes
The city echoed with music from all directions. From Selimiye Square to Saraçlar Street, from the Meriç Bridge to Tahmis Square, Romani music groups performed throughout the city. Participants danced to traditional 9/8 rhythms, celebrating the arrival of spring with joy. Throughout the festival, the city transformed into an open-air stage.

Lines formed in front of stalls selling spring-themed flower crowns in the streets of Edirne. Many people posed with the colorful crowns, capturing memories of the festivities. Meanwhile, those eager to taste Edirne’s famous fried liver patiently queued to experience this unique local flavor.

Alev Kantur, who works in the historic Alipaşa Bazaar, expressed her happiness about the influx of visitors. Derya Şahin, who came with a group of friends from Manisa, said, “Edirne is beautiful. We visited the mosques and joined in the celebrations. We’re going to jump over the fire in Sarayiçi. I recommend this to everyone,” sharing her enthusiasm for the festival.
