A new bridge project is being implemented for another crossing between Turkey and Greece. Construction work on this bridge, which will be built over the Maritza (Meriç) River between the Ipsala border gate in Turkey and the Kipi border gate in Greece, will commence this year.

In this project, the Turkish side of the bridge will be constructed by the General Directorate of Highways, while the Greek side will be built by the Greek government. The aim of this second bridge, starting construction this year, is to expedite passenger and freight transportation.

The main span of the bridge, with technical studies conducted by the 1st Regional Directorate of Highways, will be 811 meters, with a river section of 344 meters. The bridge, to be constructed with four lanes in both directions, will include emergency lanes and sidewalks. The existing bridge, built in 1958, which facilitates passage over the Meriç River between the border gates, sometimes proves insufficient for the increasing vehicle traffic between the two countries.

Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer conducted inspections at the site where the bridge will be built. Speaking about the project, Sezer stated that it would expedite crossings between the border gates.
