Everybody is getting ready for four unforgettable days of color, music, dance, and ancient traditions — because the legendary Kakava-Hıdırellez Festival of Edirne is back, and it’s going to be bigger than ever in 2025!
While the heart of the celebration traditionally falls on May 5–6, this year the good vibes are stretching out to the weekend, kicking off on Saturday, May 3, and keeping the energy high until the early hours of Tuesday, May 6.
Here’s a quick look at what’s happening:
Day 1 – Saturday, May 3
The magic starts at 3:00 PM in Edirne’s iconic Sarayiçi with a rhythm concert that’ll shake the ground (and your soul). Expect mesmerizing dance shows and a whole lot of Roman music to close the night in style.
Day 2 – Sunday, May 4
More dancing, more music, more joy! The second day begins at 3:00 PM with colorful folk dance performances, followed by more rhythm concerts and lively dance showcases into the evening.
Day 3 – Monday, May 5
This is the day. The spirit of Kakava comes alive when the traditional Kakava fire is lit at 4:00 PM, symbolizing renewal, hope, and celebration. The night will be all about dazzling Roman dance groups and spectacular stage shows that go on deep into the night.
Final Day – Tuesday, May 6 (early morning)
As dawn breaks, it’s time for the most meaningful part of the festival. At 6:00 AM, crowds gather by the Tunca River to make wishes and release flower offerings into the water — marking the mystical meeting of Hızır and İlyas, the prophets of hope and abundance.
