Significant progress has been made on the Halkalı-Kapıkule High-Speed Train Line project. The longest section of the project, the 153-kilometer Kapıkule-Çerkezköy section, has achieved 95% physical progress overall. This section is planned to be opened by the end of the year.
The high-speed train project consists of the Kapıkule-Çerkezköy, Çerkezköy-Ispartakule, and Ispartakule-Halkalı sections, and work continues on these segments.
When the new railway opens, journey times will drop significantly. For full technical details, including stations, timelines, and official project updates, check our “high speed train progress page“
The Halkalı-Kapıkule High-Speed Train project, which is 229 kilometers long, with 55 kilometers passing through Edirne, will make the city one of the key centers on the Silk Road railway route.
This project will turn the railways into a truly international bridge. With 95% progress on the longest first section, the Kapıkule-Çerkezköy section, its opening is planned for the end of the year.
Construction of a new station in Kapıkule is ongoing, while modernization works continue at the Edirne Station. With the station expansion at Kapıkule, the total area will be increased from 252,000 square meters to 338,000 square meters.
The project will increase the current line’s capacity by four times, reducing passenger travel time between Halkalı and Kapıkule from 4 hours to 1.5 hours and cargo transportation time from 8.5 hours to 3.5 hours.
Once the line is operational, the commercial activity it will stimulate will provide a significant boost to the regional and national economy.
