A hydroelectric power plant built on the Meriç River will produce 14.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The project was initiated by the Edirne Governorate Environment Protection Foundation.
Stated to be one of the largest projects in its category globally, the plant will produce 14.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year with the rotation of 14 turbine screws.
A portion of the income from selling the electricity generated from the river will be transferred to the Edirne City Volunteers Foundation, initiated by the Edirne Governorate, which provides assistance to those in need, supports women’s entrepreneurship, and offers various educational programs.

“In a statement to journalists regarding the power plant, it was announced that energy production would begin once the project was completed. The project is being showcased as one of the largest projects globally in its own scale. The project features 14 horizontal screws. According to the project, it will be possible to store water up to 33 meters and 80 centimeters with a height of 4 meters.”
