In recent months, frequent water cuts in Edirne have become a major concern for residents. With summer heat, the looming threat of drought, and aging infrastructure, water has turned from a basic need into a pressing crisis.
Facing this reality, Edirne Mayor Filiz Gencan has launched an initiative to find long-term solutions for the city’s water problem. The goal is clear: to ease today’s challenges while securing Edirne’s water future for generations to come.
Intensive Meetings in Ankara: Talks with İller Bankası
As part of her efforts, Mayor Gencan, accompanied by Edirne MPs Fatma Aksal and Ahmet Baran Yazgan, visited İller Bankası General Manager Eyyüp Karahan in Ankara.
The meeting focused on key infrastructure investments across the city, particularly the Karaağaç Neighborhood Sewer Pump Line project.
Following the discussions, Gencan said: “We had a highly productive meeting on Edirne’s needs and upcoming investments. We’ll continue working with a solution-oriented mindset for the future of our city. I thank our MPs for their support.”
Strategic Talks at DSİ: Building a Drought-Resilient Edirne
Gencan’s next stop was the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), where she met with DSİ General Manager Mehmet Akif Balta, Deputy General Manager Göktuğ İlter, and 11th Regional Director Faruk Yücegök.
The core agenda included strengthening Edirne’s water infrastructure, combating drought, and ensuring uninterrupted access to water for residents.
After the meeting, Gencan emphasized following: “We continue to prioritize inter-institutional cooperation to reinforce Edirne’s water infrastructure, build a sustainable roadmap against drought, and guarantee uninterrupted access to water for our citizens. Our aim is to leave behind a resilient Edirne — one that never faces a water shortage.”
