“In the Erikli region of Saros, environmentally friendly volunteers and associations have not allowed for exploitation. As known, the ancient city of beautiful Edirne hosts the SAROS BAY, one of Turkey’s most important seas, which includes valuable and beautiful tourism areas like Erikli, Enes, and Mecidiye.

Experts note that the coastlines in this area are among the rare seas that can self-clean. Naturally, these natural wonders sometimes become targets of insatiable profiteers and unscrupulous individuals who, utilizing their connections within the government, acquire significant areas here for their own profit.

Very soon, as a result of an important struggle against this, significant areas in the Erikli region have been saved from falling into the hands of these profiteers. By whom? Thanks to the associations in the region. There has even been a declaration on this matter, as can be seen below. May God bless these people who have fought and won this battle. They are real heroes and patriots.

A statement shared on the group’s Facebook page reads:

“The auction of 7 parcels in Erikli beach was canceled, taking an important step for the future of Erikli beach and even Saros Bay.

We thank the local government and everyone involved in canceling the auction.

We believe that in the future, a new arrangement will be made with determination and consistency, learning from past lessons.

We are ready to collaborate to improve this area, both to protect the beach area and to develop it sustainably. We are also ready to cooperate in closely monitoring the quality of the services provided.

We hope that the areas leased by EÇEV will be transferred to the municipality as soon as possible. We are saddened by the 10-year lease for the Mecidiye beach.

However, as only a small part of the approximately 52-acre area has been leased, it is important that the rest be made open to the public.

We wish that local governments always ensure high service standards through supervision and oversight with public participation.”
