Özgür Özel Chairman of main opposition party (CHP) stated during his visit to the party’s Edirne Provincial Directorate that there should be an increase in the minimum wage. He warned that if the increase is not provided, elections would be held soon.
During his visit, Özel was accompanied by Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and several other mayors and politicians. In his speech, Özel declared, “Either they will give the raise to the minimum wage, or we will forcefully take it. Even if the raise does not solve all problems, it will at least ease the livelihood. But if there’s no livelihood, don’t worry, elections will be soon.”
Expressing satisfaction with the election results in Edirne, Özel mentioned that they would make changes in the party management in Edirne and support their new mayor. He also highlighted preparations for the first general elections of the second century of the Republic. Özel emphasized that Edirne would be managed with honest, hardworking, and economical projects. He reiterated that the Republican People’s Party would honor Atatürk’s legacy and come to power.
Özel also shared following:
“Our mayor (in Edirne) holds a key. It’s the key to the power of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Atatürk’s party. For this reason, we will all support Edirne, which will be managed by our president with projects that are honest, hardworking, economical, and that protect and support retirees, workers, farmers, and tradespeople. We will stand behind Mayor Filiz and support her to the end.
We will unite and first make the Republican People’s Party the ruling party. Then, unlike the current one who told farmers ‘Take your mother and leave,’ we will have a president who says ‘Farmers, villagers are the masters of the nation.’”
“We Will Embrace Everyone”
During his speech at the Edirne Provincial Directorate, Özel emphasized that they would provide more support to tradespeople, retirees, and workers. Özel pointed out that pensions were reduced during the AK Party period and promised that they would raise pensions to 1.5 times the minimum wage when they come to power. He stated that they would provide 1% of the national income as support and bring joy to farmers.
Özel stressed that they would support mayors and the party, embrace everyone, and not marginalize anyone. He mentioned that the CHP has been successful in economic management and has gained public support, emphasizing the need to not focus on minor issues.
At a labor rally held last week, Özel had reiterated their demands for the cancellation of credit card interest rates, increasing base prices, raising pensions, and adjusting the minimum wage to inflation. He warned that if a raise was not given to the minimum wage, they would forcefully get it.
