Ship wreckage sunk in Saros bay within framework of “Saros Artificial Reef” project
Efforts to establish an underwater history museum in the Saros Gulf are ongoing. Within the scope of the “Saros Artificial Reef” project carried out by the Edirne Saros Tourism Infrastructure Service Union, a scrap ship was brought to the gulf and sunk in the İbrice port.
The sunken ship contains the Nusret Mine Ship, its personnel, and large visuals related to the Gallipoli campaigns.
The ship in question was first towed to the İbrice Port. Then, some modifications were made to resemble the “Nusret Mine Ship” (from Gallipoli battles in I. World War). On the upper deck of the ship, in the captain’s cabin, there is an area for those who want to dive. There are also large visuals related to the Nusret Mine Ship and the Gallipoli campaigns here. Thus, an artificial shelter was established underwater and a monument to the Gallipoli martyrs, as well as a new diving spot for diving enthusiasts, were created. The ship in question is 42 meters long and weighs 155 tons.
The main goal was to recreate the Gallipoli campaigns underwater. In this regard, an official shared the following: “We want to revitalize diving tourism by also bringing divers from abroad to the region. In 2010, soldier reefs made of cannons and concrete were lowered into the gulf. Efforts are underway to lower an airplane and 2 tanks to designated points in the gulf
