The Archimedes turbine hydroelectric power plant on the Meriç River in Edirne, produces 600,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity monthly.
Construction of the plant, which began in 2021, involved installing three 70-meter-long rubber weirs (rubber dams) on both banks of the river. After completing the construction, water retention and testing were carried out, and electricity production began a few months ago.
The project, which allows energy generation from the river, now produces 600,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each month.
Governor Yunus Sezer, along with Deputy Governor and General Secretary of the Provincial Special Administration Eyyüp Batuhan Ciğerci, visited the facility and received information about the ongoing work.
The visual created by the water retention in the river has been described as the “Bosphorus of the Balkans.”
