Edirne Söğütlük City Forest is a recreation area located on the southern part of the city, 2 kilometers away from Edirne-Karaağaç road. This area, covered with tall trees along the banks of the Meriç River, offers gazebos, restaurants, children’s playgrounds, tea gardens, and various entertainment and sports facilities.

Recently, the central authority has deemed it appropriate to transform it into a “NATION GARDEN” and accordingly, works were planned, but this also faced legal issues, leading to some modifications in the project.

EDİRNE CITY FOREST MAY OPEN IN SUMMER MONTHS

Regarding the project to turn the City Forest (Söğütlük) by the Meriç River into a Nation’s Garden, Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer stated that the revised plan will be tendered within this month and announced the good news that the Söğütlük City Forest will open in the summer months.

“EFFORTS ARE MADE TO COMPLETE THE UNFINISHED WORK”

Governor Sezer shared insights regarding the project in a meeting at the Governorship Meeting Hall. He expressed efforts to complete the unfinished work since taking office. He mentioned that 2 thousand large trees and seedlings were planted, walking paths were completed, and improvements were made compared to the previous state. He also noted that the project had been revised according to tender and court decisions, and the process to complete it had been initiated. Governor Sezer also mentioned plans for 3-tiered walking paths on both sides of the river to prevent floods, with collaborative efforts between DSİ and TOKİ. He highlighted the availability of trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas for youth, children, and people with disabilities in the Söğütlük area. He expressed hope that the construction works along the riverbank would be completed soon and the project would open in the summer months.

Beautiful video to give you a very good idea about Edirne and the forest (sorry, it’s in Turkish)
