
The construction works initiated on the Çerkezköy-Edirne-Kapıkule railway line in 2019 are approaching completion. The journey between Edirne and Halkalı, which was planned to be 153 km, is expected to take 1 hour and 20 minutes. Reportedly, half of the budget for the project planned to be completed in 2025 is provided by the European Union funds.
Reportedly, This railway which is part of the China-Europe high-speed railway project (SILK ROAD), planned to be completed by 2025. Although the completion of the entire system on the line between Çerkezköy and Halkalı is expected to be realized in 2025, it will likely become operational after the completion of the line.
As “EdirneTurkey.com”, we visited the construction site today to observe the ongoing works. The final works are underway in the Edirne-Kapıkule section of the line. In addition, the viaduct works in the city center are particularly noteworthy.

On the other hand, the restoration of historical tombs and artifacts around the “old power plant” area in the city center and their relocation to other areas is meticulously continuing.
The market area, which operates as the “National Market” on Fridays, will to move to its newly planned location soon, as a result of recent rearrangements.
Also, it is stated that the 25 November Stadium, located in the area where the high-speed train is, will be demolished soon, and the said area will be arranged as a green recreation area.
With all these works and upcoming new arrangements, the region is planned to become a new attraction center. In this context, projects prepared separately by the municipality and the governorship continue to be monitored by the public.
Residents think that the city will attract new relocations and gain a different identity with the upcoming investments, eagerly awaiting to see the developments.
