Edirne is preparing to welcome one of its most significant cultural investments as the year draws to a close. According to Governor Yunus Sezer, the construction of the new Edirne Provincial Public Library is progressing rapidly and will be completed before the end of the year, opening its doors to readers in the early months of next year.

Designed as a modern architectural gem that will add value to the city’s skyline, the library is set to become more than a place for books. It will function as a vibrant cultural hub and activity center, offering spaces for learning, creativity, and community engagement.

A Vision for a Living Library

Governor Yunus Sezer visited the construction site and received a detailed briefing on the progress. He emphasized the importance of the project for the city, noting that the library will be a dynamic space where multiple cultural activities can take place simultaneously. According to Sezer, this model will set an example nationwide and bring Edirne a venue worthy of its cultural heritage.

A Home for Over 200,000 Books and 1,150 People

The new library will offer seating and study space for up to 1,150 users at once. Its extensive collection will include more than 200,000 books, manuscripts unique to Edirne, and special archival materials documenting the city’s history.

The facility will feature age-specific children’s sections for toddlers, early learners, and young readers. It will also include accessible areas for individuals with disabilities, 24/7 study halls, small cinema rooms, conference spaces, and workshop studios, making it a comprehensive cultural environment.

Support from the Presidency and Ministry

Governor Sezer expressed gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy for their strong support. He noted that this major investment will serve Edirne’s cultural life for many years and thanked everyone who contributed to its realization.

An Eight-Thousand-Square-Meter Cultural Space

Covering nearly eight thousand square meters, the new library is poised to become a central space shaping Edirne’s cultural and social life. Designed not only for reading but for learning, creating, and sharing, the library strengthens the city’s identity as a center of education and culture.
