Edirne Shines with the Spirit of Unity This Summer
This summer, Edirne is more than just beautiful—it’s alive with the energy of youth from across the Balkans. The historic city, once a frontier capital of the Ottoman Empire, is now hosting 352 students under the banner of “From the Lands of Our Heart: 352 Children from the Balkans Meet in Edirne for Summer Camp.” This special gathering is all about bringing cultures together and building lasting bonds.
A Colorful Mosaic of Cultures in Motion
Young people from nine different countries—Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Serbia, and Greece—have come to Edirne for a five-day adventure. They’re not just here to visit historical sites or take in the beauty of the city. They’re here to share, learn, and grow through cultural exchange and friendship.
More Than Just Campers—They’re Future Ambassadors
Accompanied by 34 teachers, these 352 students are stepping into roles much bigger than just participants. They are becoming future ambassadors of peace, empathy, and cooperation. The friendships formed here might one day evolve into meaningful partnerships across borders.
Opening Ceremony Filled with Hope and Unity
The opening ceremony at Trakya University’s Balkan Congress Center was vibrant and moving. Edirne’s Governor Yunus Sezer captured the heart of the event with his words, reminding everyone that where there is no peace, there can be no true youth development, education, or healthy governance. His message was clear—youth friendships like these can lay the groundwork for a peaceful Balkan future.
More Than Just Sightseeing
The camp, taking place from July 27 to August 2, is packed with a wide range of activities. From science workshops and cultural tours to sports and social projects, the program offers something meaningful for everyone. Whether walking in the shadow of Selimiye Mosque, relaxing by the Meriç River, or bonding over Edirne’s famous liver dishes, every moment is part of a memory in the making.
The Echoes of This Week Will Last for Years
This isn’t just a one-time summer experience. The friendships and trust being built here are seeds for long-term understanding. The laughter shared today could very well become the foundation of tomorrow’s diplomatic bridges. Someday, when these youth are in positions of leadership, they may remember this week as the moment they first believed in regional peace.

Hosted by the Edirne Governorship and supported by the Balkan Cities Cooperation Edirne Platform, this is the third edition of the student summer camp.
