A ceremony was organized in Edirne in commemoration of the 89th anniversary of granting women the right to vote and be elected, following the amendment made in the Constitution and Election Law in 1934.
The Edirne Women’s Solidarity organized a ceremony at the Atatürk Monument in honor of Women’s Rights Day. As part of the ceremony, a wreath was laid at the monument, a moment of silence was observed, and the National Anthem was sung.
On the other hand, members of the Edirne Women’s Solidarity Platform visited the provincial assembly. Mehmet Geçmiş, the President of the Edirne Provincial Assembly, celebrated the 89th anniversary of granting Women’s Suffrage.
Referring to the statements of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk regarding Turkish women, Geçmiş said, “Mustafa Kemal Atatürk expressed that Turkish women fought voluntarily in the War of Independence with weapons in their hands, shed blood, and sacrificed martyrs. At the same time, he emphasized that women accomplished their motherhood duties and other responsibilities under the toughest conditions.”
After the speeches, platform members presented flowers to the female members of the Provincial Assembly.
