A petition campaign has been launched in Edirne by the CHP (Republican People’s Party) headquarters, demanding the release of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is detained in Marmara Prison, as well as the holding of early elections.

As part of the campaign, signatures were collected from citizens last night at the 15 July Democracy and Republic Park in Edirne. Filiz Gencan Akın, the Mayor of Edirne, who participated in the event, made the following statement:

“I invite all our citizens, regardless of their political views, to join the petition campaign. Let us all stand together against injustice and lawlessness, without any political party distinction. Let us unite under this roof. We must resist today to ensure that others are not subjected to lawlessness in the future. We expect our fellow Edirne residents to support this petition campaign.”

This campaign, which has been launched across Turkey, is expected to collect a record number of signatures and be very effective in positively influencing the developments surrounding the İmamoğlu case.
